Event Details

For those of us interested in social media, it's about finding a community of peers, making connections, learning from and supporting each other.

Social Media Breakfast Ottawa wants to help you do this by bringing you interesting, entertaining and timely speakers along with lots of real networking time over our (mostly) monthly breakfasts.

What's the event format?

We'll keep the event to within 90 minutes, focusing on providing an opportunity for people to meet each other. This month, we have a couple of guest presenters to spark conversation and discussion.

7:30 AM  Arrival, coffee & pastries, networking

8:00 AM  Introductions, feature presentation

8:30 AM  Questions

8:40 AM  Thank yous, announcements & more networking

9:00 AM We're done! On with your day . . .

Who's presenting?

Presenting at Breakfast 14 will be the marketing / communications team from United Way - Centraide Ottawa (@UnitedWayOttawa):

Stacey Diffin-Lafleur (@TheStacey) & Brendan Mullen (@Brendan_Mullen)

What are Stacey and Brendan going to talk about?

Social Media in the Charitable Sector: A New Way to Engage

A part of its community for the past 76 years, United Way - Centraide Ottawa is the major non-governmental funder of local charities and social services. Even in today's difficult economic environment, UW-C Ottawa raised a record $30 million in 2009 to invest back in its community to support important and needed social programs and services.

A cornerstone of UW-C Ottawa's annual campaign success is a communications plan that generates awareness and excitement to help rally the community behind the campaign's goals and encourage people to give whatever they can. With the general public's adoption of mass social media, United Way Ottawa has begun to adapt how it communicates and engages its community.

Stacey and Brendan will share their journey - from the baby steps of using email marketing to demonstrating the power of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Learn how an organization that has traditionally done things 'this' way can experience success when it adds a little bit of 'that' to its communications mix.

We're hoping the UW-C Ottawa's case can spark great discussion! We encourage you to bring along your stories, best practices and lessons learned to Breakfast 14!

SMBOttawa

SMBOttawa has been organized and hosted by Simon Chen, Rob Lane and Ryan Anderson since 2008. SMBOttawa's breakfast networking events are inspired and have evolved from the Social Media Breakfast concept started by Bryan Person in Boston:

". . . as an almost-monthly event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend."
